Description: Did you know that at least 80 percent of online browsers (including eBay shoppers) search for items using keywords? When used wisely, keywords can be your key to success! Please join Charlene Davis, author of “How to Sell Clothing, Shoes & Accessories on eBay” and co-author of “Make Big Profits on eBay,” as she chats with members about the importance of using strategic keywords in auction titles and listings. We’ll also go over eBay’s Keyword Spam policy and how to avoid using inappropriate keywords that may confuse and discourage potential buyers.

Cheers,

Deirdre

I want to make sure that as a Power Seller we stay clear of spamming. Currently we title our product, and include an in depth description covering many points of interest (mostly boats)to keep questions at bay.

What is considered too much redundancy of keywords within this format since the word 'boat' may appear frequently?

How can we be sensitive to SEO when entering in keywords into our store categories, etc?

Hi! When a Seller has an auction item that is 'new with tags', is it best to use 'New With Tags' and 'NWT' in the auction title, or is this overkill? Do many shoppers know what 'NWT' stands for? (Thank you for the information on the 'LIKE NEW' policy. I wasn't aware this was against eBay policy.)

Is it confusing for shoppers to put the retail price in the title of the auction? Your example 'CHANEL CASUAL WHITE TOP BLOUSE SHIRT SZ 42 NWT $990'. Would a new eBay shopper know this isn't the starting price of the auction?

Hello rawhide-sales and thanks for asking an excellent question. As a writer I try to be sensitive to how often I use specific keywords and I suggest you read the description out loud to see how redundant it sounds. Typically more than 5 times in a 250 paragraph is too much.

Hi limitedwear! Depending on how much space you have in your title, you can add both NWT and New so that buyers searching with either term will find the item.

Can you give your thoughts on starting bid prices for auctions and also on Buy It Now. What have you found that helps in these two areas.

Thanks biz,
Do you have comments on the SEO within our store categories? This is the area that we can enter keywords per store category, but in our situation there's possibly an issue with describing our items such as "boat, boat motor, boat trailer, boat lift"... See what I mean?

If this is best for another topic, please advise.

Hi again limitedwear! It is not necessary to put the retail price in the title - only if you have room. Otherwise, be sure to include it in the description.

Hi 777blessings (love your ID)! I will actually discuss starting bid prices, times and BIN (buy it now) issues in a different workshop, so stay tuned! Thanks for your interest.

Hi again rawhide-sales! I understand your concern about store SEO and that should be another topic because they operate differently than traditional auctions. That may be an excellent workshop for the future.

Thanks on the compliment. Sorry forgot what the discussion was about.

I understand that using keywords several times in our description helps with the SEO. As an example I have the brand name in my title, then it is in my description as a title then I would use it when describing the item. I am trying to understand all the SEO thinking.

Hi! In the case of a pair of shoes, if you put in size 7.5 instead of 7 1/2, are you covered for both or do you have to put in both size descriptions in the title? Same thing with 2XL vs XXL. Thanks.

You know store SEO would be a GREAT topic for a workshop!!!!I second that thought.

Do you think that using color names is a good use of words if you have the space. Are they actually keywords.

Hi again 777blessings! It sounds like you have a good handle on SEO for auction listings so that buyers can find it. SEO does work differently for stores and I understand there will be another workshop specifically for that issue.
