Member Workshop: Predicting Market Performance with Auction Research

Mar 29, 2006 2:29 PM
My question: how can I find out which capacity (128, 256 or 512 MB; 1,2,or 4 GB) has the most profit potential?

Your reply: If the capacity specifics are in the title, you could easily analyze this.

Me: Capacity specifics are always in the title, such as "USB Sony flash disks 2GB" or "1 gb verbatim flash drive". I think I just need to find out what the average "High Bid" price is for each capacity, but I'm not sure...

htdeep: In the examples you provided, how do you know that by listing on Sat., you will have a higher success rate based on history? Is it really because it's Saturday or is there an underlying driver behind that?

Also, if Andale has the passenger vehicle data available, I would think that you would be able to get it unless they have signed an exclusive agreement based on a certain amount of time. Do you have any more info. about this?

How can I use the keywords report to "rank them by most effective?" (I'm in DeepAnalysis keyword tab right now)

Hi webtechdeals
Question:Capacity specifics are always in the title, such as "USB Sony flash disks 2GB" or "1 gb verbatim flash drive". I think I just need to find out what the average "High Bid" price is for each capacity, but I'm not sure...

Once you have the data for your research, go to the Auctions tab and click on the title tab - click it twice to order results by the most successful then scan through for titles holding the specifics you wish to target.

You could also drag the title tab and high bid tab up to get a clean report with just this specific data for comparison.

Thanks for your question,
HTDeepAnalysis

Hi Webtechdeals,

Question: How can I use the keywords report to "rank them by most effective?" (I'm in DeepAnalysis keyword tab right now).

You'd analyze this data best by dragging the keyword tab and the desired aspect up to the gray area, to compare for best outcome. For instance, you could compare keyword to sales price or bids or whichever aspect you have most interest in.

Thanks for your question,

Hi reliantonlineservices,

Did I answer your question on keywords sufficiently in my answer to webtechdeals?

Hi Danny's Deals:

Great question. You asked: "In the examples you provided, how do you know that by listing on Sat., you will have a higher success rate based on history? Is it really because it's Saturday or is there an underlying driver behind that?"

Sometimes it's hard to know the questions to ask about why buyers have certain habits until you know what those habits are. I have often discovered things about a buyer by doing the research first and then asking those deeper questions.

For example, we did some research with Godiva chocolate for the valentine holiday. We expected sales to drop sharply right after Valentines. But that didn't happen. We found with Godiva chocolates that sales were just as big the weekend after Valentines as they were the weekend before. Then, it gradually tapered off. As we looked into why that might be, we asked several people the question: when do you celebrate Valentines? Many answered the weekend after. Because of the research, we were able to make further assumptions about buyer behavior.

Excellent question.

Thanks,
HTDeepAnalysis

htdeep: Is this type of research available from HT or where do you go to find this deeper analysis (like the Godiva example)? Thanks.
