eBay Stores are one of the most powerful e-commerce solutions you could have in your business plan – yet most eBay Stores are not set up to take advantage of these incredible tools, many of which are included in the subscription of the Store. After having talked to and worked with numerous Store owners, I have come to realize that many of them did not even know these amazing tools even existed within an eBay Store – much less how to set them up.

1. If you haven’t opened your eBay Store yet, there are some things you will want to consider before doing so. If you have already opened an eBay Store…then these first few steps are crucial to ‘go back’ and do if you haven’t done so already.

The first question to ask yourself is, “Who do you want to be on eBay?” Although this sounds simple, it’s really not. Plus, you definitely don’t want to move forward with your eBay business without an answer to this very important question. Information you will want to answer is, “How much money do I want to make each month?”, “What do my buyers look like?”, “How much do I want to work – part time vs full time vs really being an entrepreneur”, “What are the top 3 things I want out of my eBay business?”, etc. Answers to these questions will then make building your eBay Business much easier.

Plus, when other questions come up, such as, “What am I going to sell on eBay?”, or “What should my Store look like?”, then you’ll be headed in the right direction already.

If answers to the questions above included:
• I want to replace my corporate income of $5000 a month.
• My buyers are willing to spend $50+ on each item purchased – they shop by designer names
• I do not want to spend my time shipping lots of little things (thus the $50 per item goal) and only want to work 9 hours each day
• I want to sell my highest ticketed items, I want to build up my newsletter, and I want to let people know about the charity I support
Then when you are sourcing for products, you already know that you are looking for higher ticketed selling items with brand names.

Also, when you start working with a designer to convey who you are on eBay, you will already know that you want your highest priced items featured, as well as a newsletter sign-up box and a Custom Page for your charity.

2. Part of who you are going to be involves a logo. Many people either don’t have a logo or have an unprofessional looking one that has been generated in Photoshop. If you take time to answer the question “who are you going to be on eBay”, then buyer’s will respond with sales if your answer involves providing those customer’s with an experience. This experience can mean many things…professionalism, customer service, doing something that your competitor isn’t doing for your customers.

Now please don’t tell me buyer’s buy on price alone. Many buyers’s, myself included, come to eBay looking for deals, but I guarantee we will pay more money for two things – confidence and security. If your competitor’s ad is filled with spelling mistakes, no eBay Store, no return policy and their customer service statement is – ‘pay me in 3 days or you are gettin negative feedback’...well, then I can pretty much guarantee that I would be willing to pay more money for ‘security’ in customer service in purchasing from you.

There are two big areas you can help provide this feeling of security and confidence in your buyers, outside of having fabulous customer service. The first is your logo and presentation of your Store…and the 2nd is your eBay User ID. Your logo and style of your eBay Store gives your buyers an experience that they are willing to ‘pay’ for.
