Deciding What Items to Source

As every eBay Seller knows, one of the key success factors is finding goods to sell that are both a) in demand, and b) profitable. This is easier said than done, because the level of competition in the eBay Marketplace is intense, and the landscape is constantly shifting. Items that are profitable and in demand today can quickly become drop off the radar, so you need to keep your finger on the pulse of the community.

Ideally, you will want to sell items with which you have some experience, or that you are able to source cheaply. However, many eBay Sellers will keep their eyes out for a deal no matter what the good. Hopefully this workshop will help you find some deals in places you may not have thought to look in the past!

Hi everyone,
I notice a lot of people price items at .99 cents for hot items. Will Terapeak recommend such a low starting bid?

eBay Wholesale Categories

A great place to start searching for deals on eBay are in the categories that eBay has devoted to selling Wholesale Lots of items.

Wholesale Lots are a great place to pick up bulk items at a discount. The items can then be split up and re-sold on eBay, sometimes for a significant profit. If you look at the eBay category structure you will find a category devoted to Wholesale Lots in nearly every top level category.

You can view the eBay category structure here:

Thank You,

I really think I need this workshop because there are so many out there selling Skin Care Products, especially the ones that I'm selling and it is so very hard. I have tried selling at a price to make a profit and that wasn't working in the auctions. So every now and then I try a low starting auction price to get sales to my store. I think I need lots of help!

Hi Sweettooh,

Thank you for your great question! Terapeak does suggest starting prices for auctions. Sometimes Terapeak suggests a low starting price, sometimes its a high starting price.

99 cents is a very popular starting price for eBay auctions. Many sellers swear by a low starting price because it promotes bidding on an item.

If Terapeak finds that there is success with such a low starting price, we will definitely recommend it!

CD’s are just one example of an item that you can pick up for quite cheap in wholesale lots. While there is certainly a lot of junk to be found in wholesale lots, you can usually find CD’s from relatively new and popular artists for 50 cents to one dollar each. Used CD’s by themselves will often fetch $3 to $5 (or more) on eBay, which could represent a 600% markup for you!

We encourage you to look through some of the other Wholesale Lot categories to see how much items cost. Compare the lot prices to single unit prices and see what kind of profit potential exists!

I have started with a 99 cent auction and have some on now, and have noticed that people wait until the last minute and bid for the 99 cents. It is a game of chance it seems like. And then other times (not often enough) I will make some money on the low starting bid!

Hi eBay Beauty,

Choosing a starting price is often a difficult decision. Terapeak Complete offers a variety of analysis that can help you decide what starting price to use. We also analyze things like feature efficiency and closing time based on success rate and highest price.

We will be discussing a FREE pricing tool that we launched this week, later in the workshop.

Does Terapeak offer a service where you can tell Terapeak what product(s) you want to source and it can help you find them?
