Is there a date yet for when the Bulk Edit tool for S&H will be ready?

Hi,

I sell mostly DVDs. 95% of the packages weigh 4.01 to 5.00 ounces, but a small percentage weigh 3.6 to 4.00 ounces. I ship them in #0 bubble-wrap envelopes.

I noticed that the new changes have certain prices for First Class Mail up to four ounces, but also a different (related) class of mail for 1 to 13 ounces.

Will I still be able to ship my 4 ounce packages via First Class Mail? Or do I have to use that other slightly higher-priced mail class for my 4-ounce packages?

What will be the effect on listings where the current Mail Class is no longer available/valid on 5/14 and the listing has not been revised? I.E. Airmail Letter Post is being dropped for FIrst CLass Mail International.

Hi, I sell postcards and ship them in a rigid 6" x 8" mailer. I can't figure out if this is going to be considered first class, flat or parcel. Thanks in advance for your help. Cidney

Welcome to our workshop on the U.S. Postal Service rate changes taking place on May 14, 2007. We would like to take some time today to describe the changes being introduced by USPS as well as answer any questions you might have.

This workshop is designed to provide information on the USPS domestic changes. If you have questions related to the USPS international changes, we ask that you join our international workshop on April 26th.

You may have heard that First Class Mail will soon have “shape-based” pricing, and we would like to describe that in more detail:

The new pricing for First-Class Mail puts an emphasis on shape to more accurately reflect USPS’ true cost of doing business. The shapes for determining First-Class Mail prices are: postcards, letters, large envelopes and packages.

The new pricing system gives customers the opportunity to obtain lower rates as they find ways to prepare their mail in shapes that reduce processing costs for the Postal Service. For Example, if the contents of a large envelope can be folded and placed in a letter-sized envelope, the customer can mail as a letter and reduce postage. The Postal Service processes these reconfigured mail pieces on lower cost automation. Both the shipper and the Postal Service benefit.

The USPS wants to encourage and educate our customers to prepare packages to be more shape- and space-efficient, to keep the costs down for both the shipper and the Postal Service.

I originally had some confusion over the rate change, but with First Class Flats not allowing Delivery Confirmation, one thing has become painfully clear.

Any ebay seller who wants to follow Paypal's rules (and use DC) must ship at the highest rate.

Tell the sellers that, and there is no more confusion over package shapes, etc.

Dimensional Weight pricing will be introduced for some Priority Mail packages starting on May 14, 2007.

Dimensional-weight pricing is an important component of our Priority Mail prices because it allows USPS prices to better reflect transportation costs. For example, air transportation costs are based on the cubic size (capacity) of the package – not its weight. The current pricing structure is weight-based. Dimensional-weight pricing only applies to Priority Mail packages larger than 1 cubic foot and traveling to destinations within Zones 5-8 (zones which use air transportation).

My question is about Priority mail. As I understand the postal service wants us to use Priority mail boxes mostly for our shipping needs. Many times my widget will not fit in a Priority Box. Is the postal service going to offer new sizes of boxes that will help in packing? A box that was 12 X 10 X 7 inches or so would be a great benefit.

Also can you explain dimentional shipping? Are we going to be charged that fee if we don't use a Priority box?

Everything that I sell is shipped in a flat envelope with cardboard stiffeners. My package sizes range from a #10 envelope to a 15 x 19 clasp envelope. Furthermore, if the buyer requests insurance, I must stuff something in one part of the envelope to make it at least 3/4" think. How will I be affected?

With the new dimensional-weight pricing for priority mail, there will still be a (minimum) balloon rate.

but the balloon rate is only for packages measuring larger than 84-inches combined length and girth and traveling locally and to Zones 1-4. The minimum balloon rate will be 20 pounds. Balloon rate pricing does not apply to USPS Priority Mail packaging.

Of course, if a seller doesn't care about losing Paypal disputes, and wants to investigate cheaper USPS shipping options,
here's the page for First Class Flat sizes:

Link

Of course, if any of the following applies to your packages, it can NOT ship via First Class Flat:
Link

a. Has an aspect ratio (length divided by height) of less than 1.3 or more than 2.5.

b. Is polybagged, polywrapped, or enclosed in any plastic material.

c. Has clasps, strings, buttons, or similar closure devices.

d. Contains items such as pens, pencils, or loose keys or coins that cause the thickness of the mailpiece to be uneven (see 601.11.18, Odd-Shaped Items in Paper Envelopes).

e. Is too rigid (does not bend easily when subjected to a transport belt tension of 40 pounds around an 11-inch diameter turn).

f. For pieces more than 4-1/4 inches high or 6 inches long, the thickness is less than 0.009 inch.

g. Has a delivery address parallel to the shorter dimension of the mailpiece.

h. Self-mailers with a folded edge perpendicular to the address if the piece is not folded and secured according to 3.13.1, Folded Self-Mailer.

i. Booklet-type pieces with the bound edge (spine) along the shorter dimension of the piece or at the top, unless prepared according to 3.13.
