Greetings Everyone!

Welcome to our workshop:

Increase your eBay Sales – Use Research to Find the Best Time to List

The Terapeak marketing team, Sara Taheri and Dave Frey are here to answer any questions you may have. We like our workshops to be very interactive so feel free to jump into the discussion at any time. If you are unsure how a workshop is done, feel free to ask for help.

Today we are talking about how you can use market research to find the best time to list your items to achieve maximum profits. This is an important topic because planning your auctions can have a large impact on your sales. For example, selling school supplies too early could result in few bids and low sold prices, selling too late could result in no sales. You want to pick the best time that gives you high traffic and high selling prices. We will also go over how research can be used to build a better listing title.

In this workshop we will use analysis from Terapeak’s online market research tool to illustrate some simple things you can do with your auctions to increase your success rate.

Here is what we will cover today;

Listing at the Best Time of Year

   Preparing for Seasonal Selling Periods

Listing at the Best Time of Day/Week

Using Research to Build your Listing Title

   Wrap Up

Using Research

Before we begin we would like to give you an overview of how market reserach works. Here is a simple run-down of the researching process:

1. You have an item to sell on eBay (example: iPod Nano)

2. You go on the internet

3. You Research your item

4. You get valuable information

*this is a small sample of the information given*

5. Use the information to create a selling strategy and improve listing success:

  • Average sold price for “iPod Nano: $122.99
  • 24,344 listings on eBay in the last 30 days
  • 76.88% success rate
  • Thursday is best day to sell
  • 1 day listings are most successful…etc
  • Bold is used most often in successful auctions
  • 8 is the most successfully used keyword
  • 3-4pm is the most successful time to sell iPod’s

Listing at the Best Time of Year

One of the big mistakes we see beginner sellers making is that they neglect to account for the time of year that their auction is listed. But the fact is, the time that your auction is listed will have a big impact on the number of people who see your auction, the number of people who bid on your auction, and thus, the price you get for your item.

To illustrate our point we will run through a few examples of how listing your auction at the right time of year can have a major impact on your sales.

Is anybody out there having snowy weather like we are up here in Canada? We have been snowed in for the past week. Probably, a good time to be selling winter gloves, hats and coats. What do you think?

This might sound a little stupid, but basically, I sell things on ebay when I want. Since ebay is so convenient and global for buying and selling am I to assume that ebay is just like a store that caters to the seasons?

Hi Dealandsales,

Great question! Terapeak has information on every time that has sold on eBay in the past 90 days. So you can defintely get great information as to when to sell your specific items.

There is acutally great information regarding depression glassware as you can see a two year category trend. It seems that the best months are novemeber and february.

I will post a graph to illustrate.
