Where it meets the edge of the silver metal, the brown appears to have been sprayed on paint, a bit clumsy too, imo. I don't get the feeling that

Sorry, this isn't my "area of expertise" so-to-speak. I think the artist's signature is E N Tapus or Capus, but I'm not sure -- it's a bit stylized.

I think it's brown because it's missing the enamel -- all you have left is the engine-turned metal.
