?s about Interent Explorer

Jul 2, 2009 8:19 AM
I have been getting friendly messages from facebook that I may want to consider updating my version of I.E. I don't know what I'm missing and I have heard about incapbility issues with some programs and the latest I.E. version. Any advice?

I currently have version 6.0. Some time ago I understood that it was the least affected by problems. I have it on hard disk from MSFT and any time I had other issues and needed a complete reboot from scratch I would reload this version.

Am I living in the dark ages?

Version seven is what I am running for video purposes and also security and the version of OS, It works for me and has been for the most part secure. I tried the next higher version and going through my normal security check I found that when you click on delete all including add ons history etc, it came back to the effect that it did it fine yet when I went and checked the reported results manually (command line language) some of the info was in fact still there, it was said that the newer version is faster and it is because it creates files / links in the buffer space and looks to it's cache there and if it can't them there then it goes out to search. Yet the reason I trashed it and went back to 7 was because of security, nothing like leaving residual banking info on the system, or cookies, it's like Hansel and Gretle leaving bread crumbs , there are spy bots out there that look for that bread trail the cookies leave behind. I was going to upgrade to Vista most all the bugs have been worked out is ones understanding, yet taking to a friend of mine , convinced me to wait for Windows Version 7 to come out and thus have already put my order in to that effect.

No, you aren't in the dark ages.
I'd stay with IE6.

I downloaded IE8, and did not like it at all.
I don't recall the particulars of the problems with it.

Now that I'm back using the older version, 6 or 7, things run much more smoothly.

Try Chrome, Safari, Mozilla, adn the new Flock.

Thanks for the advice! I had heard of people having trouble with IE8 but didn't know how IE7 performs.

Another reason I stay with the older version is that I have it on disk. Ya know back in the days when you bought a computer and you got a manual and disks to download. I do have a couple of newer computers that had to be downoladed directly from the vendor. I understand it is a cost cutting measure but it is impossible to download the fix when your problem is not being able to access the internet at all.

Most sellers of computers try to keep the software so that you will be forced to return to them for service, it is a scam, you can download directly from microsoft, once you get everything the way you want you can write it to a cd or dvd for later use, of course your system needs to have cd/dvd write capability.

You can buy pre packaged systems from frys.com at a price that is hard to beat , they have put all most every computer store out of bussiness in the town that they locate their stoes to. For example where can you get a laptop w/intel a dual layer read/write, wireless, wide screen, 160gbyte disk, software and the "recovery disks" for 399.00, check them out on the web,

I have been using IE 7 for quite a while now, and it is fine. It's just different because it has tabs, where IE6 does not... so at first it takes just a little getting used to.

Have not used IE8 yet, mostly because my employer posted a message that the web version of our email is not compatible with it. I'll wait until compatibility is assured before downloading it at home. Yes, you can get it free from Microsoft, so it would be best to download it through them. Actually, MS had it in their automatic software updates a couple of months ago, but I turned that one off and said to remove it from the list.

The best deals are still here on ebay, this weekend is normally a good time to look for bargains in that people are home and get talked into getting rid of it, been watching a couple of auctions and my mouth is just drooling I figure I can snatch a 600 dollar item for maybe a couple of hundred, ei' misplaced and seller did not do enough research, I love it...

I would also recommend that you get a fairly low cost program called Ghost it basically allows you to take a snap shot of your system disk, so if you have a problem like malicious software you use ghost to restore your disk and you are back in operation with five minutes as if nothing has happened, even if I suspect an abnormality on my system it gets wiped out with my original disk that has never been exsposed to the internet, it will save you time and grief. And it's cheap...

I really like IE7 nats. Do not jump to 8 because it's going to need some fixing.

I also hate Vista & took it off of my new computers. I installed XP Media Center Edition on them.

all is well.

I remember when 7 first came out & it was really bad. 8 will probably be good when 9 is out. Seems to be the pattern with new versions. Never run the newest, run the one that has had all the bugs worked out.

figtree that is part of my problem too. I have a number of vendors who's programs are not compatible with the latest versions of certain software such as IE and Adobe so I have to watch until everyone announces they are on board before I can update. It's sort of a belssing in disguise since it seems like it takes MSFT some time to work out all the kinks in their latest version anyhow.

Danny Vista was the program that came on my latest computers. I didn't like it either. I wanted to erase it and download Windows 2000 from disks but the rep couldn't tell me if I'd fry the computer or not so I don't use those desktops. What a waste. I heard that the new computers have an internal clock and after so many hours the whole thing crashes. Is that outrageous or what?

I don't know where you heard that from but it's not true, probably the same place where the saturated thingy came from, it has been my experience that most people that don't have a solid background in computer systems falter with mumbo jumbo , it's convolution at it's prime...
