Guilloche enamel miniature silver vase, help please?

Jul 3, 2009 1:28 PM
Thank you for looking. I have realized I am out of my league with this one. It is 4" tall, I have not tested yet but believe it to be silver although there are no hallmarks I can find. I cannot figure out what the brown is around the bottom but it has engraving or engine-turning like the rest of the piece. This part is very rough and there is a piece missing.

I know my full shot photo bites, I will redo it when I'm not so excited. Can I even get anything close to date, do you think? The man is a dandy, isn't he? Can anyone make out the signature?

Thanks for any & all comments & direction.

I think it's brown because it's missing the enamel -- all you have left is the engine-turned metal. :(Wendy

Sorry, this isn't my "area of expertise" so-to-speak. I think the artist's signature is E N Tapus or Capus, but I'm not sure -- it's a bit stylized. Early 20th c, maybe? Other posters may chime in. :)W

Is the body made of a ceramic material?

Where it meets the edge of the silver metal, the brown appears to have been sprayed on paint, a bit clumsy too, imo. I don't get the feeling that this is an antique.

It may be an import made to look old.

Karen, the body doesn't feel like ceramic or metal either....almost a leather or wood texture.
