I'd start by I.D.ing the stamp, which looks like it has a flower in the mark. The hairstyle and simple dress makes me think somewhere in southeast Asia, but I'm not sure about that.

They said this was a contemporary handicraft, imitating the pottery figurines of the Tang Dynasty.Hope you didn't spend a lot of money on it.
