The Lewis Chessmen

For all the chess players on the board, if you buy vintage chess sets or pieces keep a special eye out for the Lewis Chessmen discovered off the shore of a Scottish shore in 1n 1831, One piece is coming up for auction estimated at $ 600,000 to one million dollars. This may be old news but I was compelled to post this after being greeted by those Precious Moments items that kept showing up on this landing page.

Re: The Lewis Chessmen

Was that the one an antiques dealer bought for about $6 in the 1960s and held onto for over 50 years, before it went to Sotheby's and sold for well over $900,000?

If so, there are some good pictures here:

My late husband was a chess player and among the sets he had was a Lewis replica.
