Sorry, I mistyped "mylar"

Ok, I took apart one of my son's baby toys. Inside of the toy was just clear plastic cellophane. I am going to try basket wrap in my book and see if that works, although I am not sure if it will "crinkle" enough for me!! Let me know if you think of any other ideas or where to find the exact "crinkle" paper!

OKay I too have been searching this. According to Tiny Love Toy company it is a type of cellophane. I have used 4 kinds and found all to have major faults. First at the seam it tears easily and within a few washings seems to clump up inside the object. I tried true cellulose cellophane, polyprolene film or the most commonly purchased cello, shrinkable basket wrpa that I preshrunk and whatever "sew with sarah" sells. (the last being the worst) I have yet to find something launderable and durable. But I was given a few insights. They only ever do very small areas on toys and it has come to my attention that the reason might be the bunching and tearing. So do small areas. For books use pretzel bags they are more durable.

I have found the crinkly cat toys work great in crocheted animals I have made for babies. I have yet to find sheets of mylar. Rascals Cat toys sells cute mylar balls that are very crinkly. I stuff them in crocheted balls or toys for babies. Hope it helps.

When I was in school, we made childrens fabric books for a Christmas charity thing, and we added a layer of 'crinkle' to the pages. All we used was cellophane bags. You can buy them here on eBay, listed under party supplies and packaging supplies (some have a adhesive strip, that will have to be cut off).
We put them in between two layers of fabric, and sewed the layers together, so the cellophane was inside. You've got to crinkle up the cellophane a bit before you use it.
We did test them in a washing machine, and the cellophane inside wasn't as noisy. Hand washing was best.

Its 2011 now... any news on the crinkle paper? isnt cellophane good?

In the past I purchased emergency "space blankets" made from mylar from Walmart. They were under $5 as I recall. Mylar is very tough and would probably stand up to washing. Am about to try my hand at making Crinkle toys and this is what I would use. Think it's also the stuff inside window quilt material which you can sometimes find cheap as remnants .

I use cereal bags, the clear bag inside the box that holds the cereal. They are thick, make a lot of noise and stand up to washing and drying in the dryer as long as you dont try to dry it for 16 house or something LOL  I just cut 2 pieces that will fit in what ever it is that I want to make "crinkle" and I sew them together with my sewing machine (so they dont slide apart from each other) and then put the crinkle in.  I use 2 pieces so it has a nice crinkle sound.

celophane wrap u can buy it in rolls just like wrapping paper at the dollar store hope it helps i make them for my home business babies love them

 

You can also use insulbrite batting. It is more expensive and meant for potholders etc. However it does give the crinkle effect and stands up to washing and drying. My 6 month old loves to play with my pot holders!

Hello I am new to posting here.

I love this crinkle stuff for baby toys and animal toys, it makes so much noise and they love it.  I tried to get some in the toy size and they are out of it so i cant get it.  I would have to get the blanket size and with shiping it would be almost twenty dollars. but then i guess it would be worth it i would just have to cut it to size anyways.  It just would have been easier to cut from a smalller size.  I looked onlinhe and there is no where else to get it right now, just that one place.   The kind you can get at the sarah place,  you cant put it in the washing machine or it will get messed up then.  And since you need to wash baby toys it will not work.  I tried the using baby wipes bags for it but no matter how many times you wash those bags out they still smell and some people like my friend does not like the smell. I make her some baby toys with them inside to make a sound when they were played with and my friend did not like the baby wipes smell.  I will try these new crinkel materials and see how they do after they are washed.   Plus alot of animals do not like the baby wipe bag smell and I tried them. My dog hated them and would not play with the toys I made for her.  I just hope this stuff works better because twenty dollars is alot for something that does not hold up in the washing machine any better than the other kind.    but thank you for puttinhg this up on the forums, I would not have known about this new kind if you had not.
