MTGO - MC999 eBay Listing Removed: Copyright Violation - Unauthorized Item
Jul 28, 2012 11:10 AM

So, it looks like as of late June ebay has been canceling all MTGO listings.

I feel that the listing department is doing this in error; that they are misinterperting their own 'virtual items' policy, or, that they do not realize that MTGO has been excepted from this policy.

The following are statements of fact:

1. Magic The Gathering (MTG), and Magic The Gathering Online (MTGO), are collectible trading card games.  One deals with physical cards, one deals with digital cards.  They are both produced by Wizards of the Coast (WOTC).  WOTC encourages and allows the trading/buying/selling of both MTG and MTGO cards.  Doing so does not violate their copywrite or their UELA.

2. 'Virtual Item' policy or not, Ebay has allowed and encouraged the sale of MTGO digital cards and digital event tickets for over 10 years.

There is an actual ebay item category of Toys & Hobbies-->Trading Cards-->Magic The Gathering-->Online.  Go look.  Millions of digital cards and digital event tickets have been legally bought and sold on ebay within this category.

Customer service is a black hole. I have appealed my canceled listing but have still received no reply. I have spent hours trying to talk to different customer service. Nobody can tell me what items I should be selling in this Magic The Gathering-->Online category, or why items that have been allowed for years are now suddenly being canceled, even though ebay policy has not changed and WOTC trading policy has not changed.

So, the question is, what can we the mtgo community do to correct this?

Well, I have still not received a reply from ebay regarding my listing appeal from 2 weeks ago (7/20/12), nor to my numerous phone call inquiries.

I do see that a whole bunch of mtgo listings have completely recently so maybe they figured things out, but an official statement confirming that we can buy and sell magic online items in the magic online category would be nice.

Anyone going through this with them too?

wow, almost the same thing just happened to me.  They canceled my MTGO listing for being the wrong category!  They said that I am not supposed to sell my Magic ONLINE cards in the Magic ONLINE category. I don't know what to do.  Calling support was as bad as you said it was, they are useless!

Yup, happened to me too.  Like with yall, ebay is yet to respond.  I've e-mailed wizards and they've currently "escelated" the issue.  I can only hope Wizards is currently giving ebay a hard time for devalueing their product.

Has this been resolved?  I see a few completed MTGO auctions and the Magic Online category still exists, even though I was told it was going to be removed.  I had some auctions removed in the past and I would really like to sell some cards.
