How BAD is this for YOU - post your numbers!

Do the math and post your numbers of how bad this will hurt you.

If it actually does help anyone, post your numbers too.

Here is a rough approximation of how it will effect us:

$600 more a MONTH in fees if we stay as is.
$120 more every month in fees with our best option (upgrading store)

With no correlatation to sales increasing or decreasing, I might add.

I am a small time PowerSeller that has made good use of my store.

Not counting Auction style listings which have decreased in efficiency dramatically over the last couple of years, this is the effect of the new pricing structure:

Current store + listing fees (per month):
~$18.19
After March store + listing fees:
~$36.55
Upgrade to Premium Store, store + listing fees:
~$55.35
Downgrade to No Store, listing fees:
~$54

Looking at a MINIMUM increase of 100%
What a bargain.
But I don't think I can afford another eBay "Lowest... Fees Ever".
That is "change" I don't want to believe in.

Think you are quite right about this.

I have a basic store that averages 150 items a month. $15.95 plus $4.50 (3 cents x 150) = $20.45. With new fees --- $15.95 plus $30.00 (20 cents x 150) = $45.95. I would be paying $25.50 MORE per month! And this is good for me how?
I will be closing my store in March and just list a handful of items for auction & and a handful in Fixed Price.
Ebay loses fees! I really think they are trying toget rid of the smaller stores - but this will hurt the larger ones too!

I used to sell and quit last time they raised their fees.

I went into the affiliate business. I'm one of the many who actually send people to your listings through website links - or should I say "was" one of them.

ePN (eBay's affiliate program) has been screwing us since last year, changing their commissions awarded to us. In their favor, of course.

Being a member of many forums for affiliates, I can tell you that thousands have removed links to eBay and have converted sites once dedicated to eBay listings into Amazon sites, or other companies that sell products.

We thought it was just stupidity on the ePN side. Now it seems that they have taken it to a new level. Not only are they losing those who drive traffic to eBay, but they are losing those who sell the actual products, as well.

I've never seen such a good company so intent on self-destruction. In trying to become another Amazon.com they are forgetting the foundation of the business that made them a giant. Unique items that are hard to find at a cheap price. Yard sale, garage sale, and attic items.

eBay is going to be left with nothing but cheap Chinese knockoff items.

The new fees will be COMPLETELY negative for me. Most of my sales are $25 -250 using auction format. Typical $100 sale with starting price at $.99 - Old fees : $ 4.97 total fees. New fees : $ 9.00. That's a fee INCREASE of $ 4.03 or 81%. That's not a misprint. The new fees only start to be an improvement over the present fees in aucton sales with a sale price of over $ 550. It's obvious that ebay wants to weed out the low volume seller with the new fees - the only partial compensation if you are a high enough volume seller is to pay to have or upgrade your ebay store - for a seller like me I am motivated to look for any & all alternatives to ebay.....

I have 640 items x .03= $19.20. NEW fees 640 x .20= $128.
Difference of 108.80 MORE per month!!! I called Ebay support and ask to speak to someone with the STORES. I was told that I could ONLY talk to them on LIVE HELP! Ask if someone could call me, answer was NO! to go to Live help.
I will NOT be buying anymore NEW STOCK!

There seems to be some confusion that you are getting the same "Store Inventory Format" listing for $0.20 in a Basic Store that you currently pay $0.03 to list. Starting March 30th, Store Inventory Format listings become Fixed Price listings with full search exposure. This will improve the visibility of your items that currently have very limited exposure to buyers, because they normally only appear as Store expansion.

True...but it means that those of us that listed as fixed price before will now face more competition from the new flood of store listings that will now be fully searchable without a corresponding increase in buyers.

Also free photos are no biggie, I got them from photobucket and ayctiva before.

After surviving the hardest year I have ever had, I had high hopes of just maybe rebuilding and starting over. I have closed down other websites, stopped advertising, and cut my inventory just to make it by. Now with a slight chance of rebuilding, I ordered new inventory and based my budget by the information I had in January. This increase and change in fee is now going to kill my business. The changes are going to cause my slowest months in the year to actually cost me about the same as my busiest month in the past. I will be lucky to brake even. I survived the storm, but the snow plow ran me over.

Greetings from New Zealand

I have been selling second hand British tools and car parts to US old British car people for 11 years. I have made many friends - even stayed with them in the US. E bay used to be a "nice" company - but has become increasing "not nice" over the past few years - putting more and more restrictions of "foreigners" like me. This may be the last straw. Auctions are the only practical way to sell the things I have. My average sale price is about $60 with a range of about $25 to $300 I just worked out that the eBay take on my last three months sale was 5.5% - increasing it to 9% is real nasty plus of course listing and PayPal fees. Especially when the preface the kick in the goolies with:

Starting March 30, 2010 selling on eBay will be a better deal than ever!

This is really, really rude! How stupid do you think I am? Has eBay management forgotten who pays their salaries? It is the customers – like me. I hope someone up the top figures out this is a huge mistake and has the courage to think again.

Dear sellers,

Unfortunately I am unable to respond to each and every example within this post, but I have noticed that some sellers who think that they are receiving a fee increase are actually receiving a fee decrease if they choose the appropriate tier. Please take a look at the Fee Illustrator to determine the best tier for you:http://pages.ebay.com/sellerinformation/news/FeeIllustrator2010.html

Today, the insertion fee for a Fixed Price listing with this full search exposure is $0.35. In the future, the fee for this listing format will be reduced to $0.03 for Anchor tiers, $0.05 for Premium tiers or $0.20 for Basic tiers.

In addition, pictures and Picture Pack which include up to 12 free supersized pictures per listing will be free for all Store subscribers with Fixed Price or Auction listings. Today, sellers receive the first picture free, but each additional picture is $0.15.

Unfortunately, Mr. Ebay...you can talk about your free insertion, or .20 all you want you are still raising our FVF to insane amounts, enough so to run off a lot of sellers, that can't pay you 9% or 8.75 + store fees, and still make much of a profit.

So, even though your insertion fees might be free, you are providing a different type of "insertion" that none of your sellers want!

I almost feel guilty...my fees will decrease slightly.

I list about 200 items per months in a specialty area where only about 10% actually sell each month. Average closing price is $30.

Old system 200 fixed price $ 70 listing fees and $72 closing fees on $600 sales for $142 in fees before paypal..

Under the new system with a basic store $128 in fees including the store fee before paypal.

I re-ran my December & January invoices line by line with the new fee structure.... I run 80-120 auctions a month combined with about 10 FP30 listings and about 1,350 store listings and have a basic store. I'm top-rated and get the 20% discount... Nov 15 - Jan 15 Current Fees: $477.35 Option 1 - Keep Basic Store New Fees: $877.42 (increase of 83%) due primarily to store listing fees moveing from $.03 / $.05 / $.10 to $.20 per insertion... Option 2 - Upgrade to Premium Store New Fees: $565.62 (increase of 19%) due primarily to increase in monthly store fee from $15 to $50 and increase in FVF's Option 3 - Upgrade to Anchor Store New Fees: $1,036.68 (increase of 117%) due primarily to increase in monthly store fee from $15 to $300 Obviously option 2 is the "best"......I just have to decide if having the listings searchable in core is worth 19% more in fees assuming everything else remains constant.

I will be saving 25% on my fees.

We list all FP35 listings, to increase exposure. Did .03 store inventory listings in our other store, and didn't like them at all.

Currently (based on 1000 items per month, which is our average):
1000 x .35 = $350 plus $16 for basic store = $366

New Structure:
1000 x .05 = $50 plus $50 for premium store = $100

Our average Ebay bill including FVF is $1050 per month. Our FVF have not changed (clothing, shoes, accessories).

So new total will be less than $800.

HUGE savings for us.

i am similar to you with just more items.

i think i will save about $400 per month

Just the numbers:
I have a Basic Store with approximately 1100 listings at any given time. Currently my costs for a BASIC store and 1100 LISTINGS is $33.00 + $15.95 = $48.95

My new options:
BASIC store (1100 x $.20) + 15.95 = $235.95
PREMIUM store (1100 x $.05) + $49.95 = $104.95
ANCHOR store (1100 x $.03) + 299.95 = $332.95

Even the best option (PREMIUM) is an increase of 51% in listing fees

If they offered a reduction of the final value fees when you upgrade it might be worth it, but this is just to big of an increase.

I think I'll rent a nice ranch on the river instead and Presto chango so a bit of magic on the side.

you will be paying about $50 more per month. but you will also be getting seller manager pro as part of your store upgrade. it can handle auto relisting of your items, handle your feedback for you and better help you manage your sales process.

Responding to 113:

Hey, I admitted it: I was dumb!

You pay more, you get more. That's a principle I understand. My point, perhaps stated poorly, was that the pink reply diminished the value of the (arguably) stingy thing I have -- not very diplomatic.

Also, my own searches included stores, so I never felt that as a buyer I was missing opportunities. I imagine most savvy buyers turn on the option to search stores.

As for you paying 35 cents each in order to obtain a competitive advantage, you will now be competing with millions of others who upgrade from 3 cents to 5 cents. Our increase in costs might be covered by an increase in sales. But your decrease in costs might be lessened by a decrease in sales, which would occur because of the all the newly arriving former 3-centers.

Again, eBay has the right, etc., etc. But the spin they put on it is most amusing.

Responding to the pink reply above: Is eBay admitting that the 3-cent listings have been essentially worthless and discriminated against in buyer searches? It would seem so, since we're being told that a 20-cent listing will make an item more visible.
Store listings were always advertised as having lower search visibility. They appear at the bottom of the screen unless the buyer opts to include them in their search. Why do you think people (including myself) paid the .35 FP GTC fees? So that we had higher visibility.

I guess I was a little bit dumb to think that I could trust eBay to give me something for my meager, but assured $40 per month for 800 items.

Now the 800 items will cost me $90 per month, and eBay is comforting me with the thought that my years of $40 were a waste of money -- NOW eBay will come through for me!

Well, even this is not such a comfort: If eBay is making many MILLIONS of former 3-cent items more visible, along with mine being made more visible, then my competitive situation is the same.

I've been selling via auction since 9-08 and auction/store combo since 1-09. (Space-Coast-Vintage!!) Using the fee illustrator my monthly cost wil be $64 if I dont subscribe to the basic store format., and $66 if I keep my "Basic" store. The $66 estimate is calculated using a very modest anticipation in sales increasing and reducing my store inventory from 100 items (all the $5 stuff) to 50 items (stuff with an asking price of $10 give or take) .
My heart goes out to the countless peple who depend on eBay as their main income. Reading all their comments is alarming! I do this as a hobby with plans to increase my sales and inventory as my experience and ambition allows. Its appalling to read some of the comments left behind by selfish and inconsiderate sellers who glot and brag "sweet, sweet, sweet!" etc.
The only silver lining I can see to any of this , for me and hopefully for others, is that this change will cause me to explore other venues and possibly change completely or at least diversify to Amazon, Bonazle, Ranch or one of the other online sale sights.
P.S. Auctiva is a great 3rd party listing sight I pay $9.99 monthly for their service and think its well worth it!
Good luck and Best Wishes to all those suffering through this. Hopefully I will see you on the otherside be it here or our next online selling opportunity.

Re: How BAD is this for YOU - post your numbers!

I think you are correct. Ebay is obviously trying to finish getting rid of the small businesses - they all didn't leave last time!! Ebay told us all that they would no longer be hosting pictures, so we spent hours/days transferring all our auctions to Auctiva - now they say they will host pictures - this appears to have been just one more trick to get rid of small sellers. I don't know what to do, however I am also very tired of trying to 'mitigate' every ebay change, to keep selling items. 'Search' is a joke. Even buyers who have us in 'favorites' can't find us!! Interesting the day we signed up with Auctiva and the scrolling product thing went on our pages, there was a tiny uptick in sales. (We notice every one, because we are down to so very few sales...) The past 24 hours have been interesting too - we've sold the most in months > Ebay obviously controls searches to the 'nth' degree - we can tell from one day to the next where buyers are seeing our products, because one day all the sellers are from CA, the next day they are all from the east coast, etc.
Regarding the fees changes, it would cost us more; again. FVFs are already too high.
Ebay is no longer any fun (stopped being fun several years ago).
